A 2022 National CCAA Transfer Scholarship recipient, Jillian will attend Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington. She shared that many factors went into her decision to enroll.
"Saint Martin's University ended up being the perfect fit for me! SMU has an incredible education program, generous financial aid programs, and it is close enough to home that I get to commute to my classes. Every person I met when during visits to Saint Martin's genuinely cared about me and was excited to meet me; it just feels like home!"
Jillian previously attended Whitworth University and South Puget Sound Community College and at Saint Martin's she will major in Literary Studies and Secondary Education in order to achieve her future plans of becoming a high school English teacher.
We asked Jillian:
What aspect of your college/university are you most excited about?
I'm excited to have a second chance at a great college experience! I will get to meet so many new people and have the opportunity to join clubs related to my majors, so I'm excited for the chance to build community around my future career!
What one tip about the transfer process would you share with future transfer students?
Don't be afraid to reach out to your transfer counselor! The transfer process can be much more complex than first-year college applications, so be sure to ask any and all questions you have, check in often on forms and transcripts, and build a good relationship with your transfer admissions counselor.
We know the start of your college career has been different than what you imagined it would be; what is one positive thing that came out of the experience?
The biggest positive result of my college experience so far is that I had the chance to decide what I truly was passionate about studying before committing to a four-year university to finish my degree!
What is one fun fact about you?
I'm a barista at Starbucks.
